2010 XXI Winter Olympic Games: Torch lighting pictures
The opening ceremony of the XXI Winter Olympic Games was going swimmingly until it came time for the actual torch lighting. As the torch–which looked like a machete by the way– was passed to Hockey great Wayne Gretzky, the crowd and audience waited in anticipation for the cauldron to rise from the ground. The audience waited and waited and waited some more and finally it became obvious that one of the torch lights had malfunctioned. The Powers That Be, decided it would be best to continue on with the ceremony. The display torch was finally lit and Gretzky exited the stadium to light the actual torch.

The show was visually a work of art, but it just goes to show you that relying on technology 24/7 is never a good thing. View more pictures (courtesy of GETTY Images) below!
