Actor Andrew Koenig’s body found in Vancouver
A body was found on Thursday, February 25, in Stanley Park in Vancouver. The body is now confirmed to be that of Growing Pains star Andrew Koenig. Police were frantically searching the park for days since Koenig has been known to spend an ample amount of time there. Koenig was last seen on Valentine’s Day.
A police statement obtained by PEOPLE says:
“The body is believed to be that of Andrew Koenig.”
Walter Koenig, Andrew’s father, did receive a note from his son on February 16, however the note wasn’t reassuring.
“He sounded despondent,” said Walter. “Nobody has seen this [note] but my wife and I.”
“He went to visit some friends in Toronto and after there, he went to Vancouver,” explained his father. “It’s a place where he felt very comfortable. He lived there for a few years.”
UPDATE: CNN confirmed just a few minutes ago that actor Andrew Koenig’s body was found in Stanley Park in Vancouver. Koenig was 42 years-old. RIP
Walter Koenig: “My Son Took His Own Life”
According to E! News, Andrew’s father, Walter Koenig, believes Andrew took his on life. Walter Koenig said the following during a press release earlier tonight:
“My son took his own life,” dad Walter Koenig said during a police news conference this evening. “Obviously, he was in a lot of pain.
“I have received hundreds of emails from people who said they are depressed and considering the same course of action or showed signs of the same behavior,” Walter, who played Chekov on the original Star Trek, said.
“The only thing I will say is if you are one of these people and feel you can’t handle it anymore, I hope you learn from this. Know that there are people are out there who really care. It may not be enough, but before you make your final decision, check it out again, talk to somebody.”
“People don’t realize there is help. Families, familiarize yourself with these signs. Don’t rationalize anything away. People have shown signs of love.“In his pain, Andrew didn’t realize what was available to him. He had much love and much to contribute. This is the only statement we are going to make. Please respect our privacy.”
So far, the Vancouver police see no signs of foul-play and the investigation will now be handled by the coroner’s office. How tragic…
