Beyoncé, with her mother Tina Knowles by her side,  proudly cut the ribbon at the unveiling of her Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House in Brooklyn, NY. The singer has been working on this foundation for quite some time and from her statements, you can tell just how near dear this foundation is to her.

“I felt like they needed something that was geared towards women – something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House.”

Tina Knowles owned and ran her own beauty salon for years and Beyoncé shared those fond memories with the audience.

“I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice.”  “Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation.” In the end, she said, “It’s a very proud day for me and my mother.”

The center will offer a residential substance abuse treatment program. The foundation seeks to mold both men and women on how to begin a successful  career in cosmetology.
