‘The Game’ star Brittany Daniel dishes on being dropped to recurring status

The Game pulled in 7.7 M viewers on its BET season premiere. And even though actress Brittany Daniel was in the season opener, you might not see as much of her character “Kelly Pitts” as the season progresses. Daniel dished on how she felt about being dropped froma series regular to recurring status.

What’s different for me is I was a series regular before and now I’m just a reoccurring character on the show. We did 13 episodes and I’m just contracted to do six. Another change is that we’re shooting in Atlanta and that’s different. [The Game was previously filmed in Los Angeles.]
Wow, that’s really disappointing. Did the powers that be tell you why they reduced your role?
I wasn’t happy about it, I wanted to do all the episodes but I think it was a financial thing. So I think the biggest difference for me between working for CW and BET is on the CW I made more money [laughs]. But the reason I came back to do the show is that I love the show. And I love, love the people that I work with so even though it came down to [my reduced role] I had to be supportive of the rest of the cast. I know me not showing up would affect a lot of story lines differently so I decided to be a team player anyway.
Are there any other changes in having The Game going from a network to a basic cable channel?
We’re shooting thirteen episodes at one time. So we’ll be finished with shooting thirteen episodes in a month and a half. The first day of my shooting day I did a scene from the last episode. Then after lunch you might be shooting a scene from the first episode. So that was really challenging to keep up with where you are in the story from hour to hour.
Whoa. Really? Most dramas and sitcoms take several months to shoot a whole season worth of shows.
It was challenging and weird doing it this way. Because when I was shooting an episode a week I had a whole week to absorb what my character was going thru. And I would get very connected to the character, because I’d be living it. But now it’s like, ‘Oh now I’m doing the very end of the season with all this dramatic stuff going on but we haven’t done all the scenes prior so I don’t really know where I’m at.’ Or I’m mentioning a character, like Tasha’s boyfriend and I haven’t even met the actor who plays him yet. I don’t even know who he is and I’m already talking about him. But I told myself, I’ll just do the best I can. That’s all you can do—the best you can under these circumstances.
Because of your work in The Game and the black films you’ve appeared in, I hear your co-workers on the The Game say you have an inner black girl…
[Laughs] I have people come up to me and ask you really date black men don’t you and I say I do [Daniel is currently dating Keenan Ivory Wayans] and they say I can tell. And my cast members always say, ‘Oh Brittany is black, she is a sister.’ It’s so hilarious. I always end up working on African American productions. I worked with the Wayans on two movies [White Chicks and Little Man, I did The Game for a few years, and when I did Skyline Donald Faison is my boyfriend. It happens so many times.

Personally the show have not been the same since season three.Kelly did bring a different personality to the table,which was what set all of the characters for the show.I try to watch the show a couple of times to see if that same feeling was back like the old seaons but i turned the channel to watch something else.Its crazy too see that kelly is not on the show cause now the show is bu!! $#it.
Can’t stand this new season. Watched all episodes to current and just not enjoying the season so far. Cant stand Tasha and Meloney’s personality any more. It’s too boogey and Brandy just isn’t real enough to me.
I use to love watching the game,but now I cant watch anymore, What happened? I use to laugh now I cant stand that show. I thought we finally had something to watch, worth watching.
It’s not the same without you Kelly! It used to be my favorite show but not any more!
The Game sucks since Kelly Pitts is no longer on the show. They need to bring Brittany Daniels back!

My family and I being afro american are not really enjoying the Game as much as e used to. The proliferation of really skeezy reality shows is dampening our enthusiasm for a lot of TV these days. Most shows go through cycles so I wish The Game the best going forward.
iam very upset about brittany daniels being dropped from the game the show has gone down alot please bring brittany daniels back as the lead she is a real sister on the show please take brandy off i was a big fan of the show. and alot of my co-workers were but this new season not a fan at all also coby bell and brittany daniels work very well and the made the show. also wendy requel b.k.a. tasha mack please bring kelly pitts back she a diva
Well it’s true The Game not like it used to be,the producers wanted to bring back the show to be funny but it’s not that funny and i wish everything pick off way better from season 3.
I enjoyed watching the old series more with Brittany (Kelly Pitts) Daniels. I know it was just a show but, she showed women how to keep their relationship spicy (lol). I don’t know if Brittany being dropped from the show has anything to do with it but the show is not as intersting as it has been in the seasons before.
Jason and Kelly’s relationship is what drew me into the show. I loved the hard to get, chase, jealousy, breakup and makeup of the storyline. they killed the dynamic

Yes, I miss Kelly Pitts too! I do not know why they took her off so many of the episodes but I really miss seeing her. The show has gone down hill. Change is not always good and just because it is a black show does not mean that we as black americans don’t enjoy seeing a mixture of races.
I hate Melanie character, she has lost all her humility like she had when she worked part time and took the bus, now she is just a bawler’s wife with no real backbone other than to be a show off and bery bougie. whats up with brandi, she doesnt fit into the show, where is high profile malik and feisry tasha. the game need to shape up or its going to lose all its fans. watching these days is like pulling teeth.uggggh, please people go back to the drawing board and make it right. w
The Game needs new writers or a new station BET and ruined a HIT TV show. The characters are all over the place. By the end of the show I coul d care less about what is going to happen next week. Whatelse comes on, on a Tuesday night? (mind you I sign the petition)
I use to LOVE watching the game. The writer’s are going in a totally different direction, a direction that no one wants to follow. PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE go back to the way things were before the show went off the air.

Point blank, the sucks right now and last season was mediocre also. The direction is gone and writing is horrible, its not even about football anymore.. whoever decided to take Kelly (Brittany Daniel) off the shoe is getting they ass beat when I catch up to them… I’m black and ill admit that B.E.T sucks as tv channel, I never watch it

BRING BACK KELLY AND THE ORIGINAL BRITT BRAT
Kelly was the heart of the show. I hated season 4 cause the writers made you look so bad. I was one of the people who seen this show premier the very first episode after girlfriends. When they cancled the show I was screamed cause it was my favorite show and my favorite character was Kelly Pitts. She is needed in the show for it to be an amazing show as it was in season 3. To be honest I want to stop watching the show cause its not good. If the show was going to turn into this I wouldn’t rallied for it to come back. The writers stink. The only reason I watch the show now is of hopes that they somehow get back to the great show it once was but I am losing hope. I wish Kelly and orignal Britt Brat and Rick Fox was back on the show again. Season 3 was the best cast on television in the last I would say 8 years.
BRING BACK BRITTANY DANIEL!!! I mean come on! There are a lot of Black athletes married/dating white women. What made it interesting was that you saw they really loved each other and it was a real relationship. They got together being superficial but the writers showed a real marriage with arguments, spicy romance, meddling in-laws and a spoiled rich kid- Brit Bratt!! COME ON WRITERS I think the fans have proved we know what we’re talking about!!!
The show is garbage now!!! Big mistake letting Brittany Daniel go as Kelly. I loved her character and the spice and wackiness she brought to the role. Also hate the actress that plays Britt Brat now. Bring back the original girl she just fit the role better. Suggestion for a storyline; Bring Kelly back with her life together and hot, sexy new man in her life!!
i dont like what bet writers has gone with the game..we all voted and wanted the cast we fell in love with and that includes kelly !!now the have brandy on here with jason ugh!!not a good look..!kelly and jason brought the hot sexy view to relationships. brandy just dont fit that..and another thing how do tasha go from rick fox to cole from martin show ,and terrance from 106n park,UGH!! this season is is not hot at all .. i thank they have went far off from what we wanted! IM SAYING BRING KELLY BACK AND SEND BRANDY BACK WHERE SHE WAS !!!YALL MAKING THE SHOW WACK
