Meet Disney’s First Latina Princess, Sofia
In just 5-weeks, Disney will be availing its first-ever Latina Princess.
The new princess is named Sofia and she will be making her debut in a television movie called Sofia The First Once Upon a Princess. The animated film will make its debut on The Disney Channel on November 18. The movie will later be turned into an animated series for Disney Jr. and The Disney Channel. Both the movie and television series will be geared towards ages 2-7.
“She is Latina,”said executive producer Jamie Mitchell of the character.
And it seems as though little Sofia is already making an impact on girls around the world. “When we go into schools [to talk to young students about the show], what I find fascinating is that every girl thinks that they’re Sofia, ” said Joe D’Ambrosia, vice president of Disney Junior.
The movie revolves around Sofia as she adjusts to the life of a princess, after her mother marries the king of Enchancia. Disney’s Cinderella even makes an appearance in the film to help Sofia cope with her new title.
The voice of Sofia will be done by Ariel Winter from ABC’s Modern Family, while Sara Ramirez from Grey’s Anatomy will be the voice of Queen Miranda.
