Singer Solomon Burke dead at age 70

Singer Solomon Burke died at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on October 10, 2010. He was 70.

Burke  wrote the hit song “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love. ” He is notably reembered for recording the hit song  “Cry To Me,” which was used in the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing.

The singer’s death was confirmed by airport police spokesman Robert van Kapel. No other details of the singer’s death were immediately given.

It was later said that Burke died on a airplane early Sunday morning after arriving on a flight from Los Angeles.

Burke, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,  was slated to perform at a club in Amsterdam on Tuesday.
