Aretha Franklin Shares Weight-Loss Secrets
Aretha Franklin is back and she’s sassier than ever. The Queen of Soul spoke with Jet magazine candidly about her weight-loss and plans to become smaller before her birthday on March 25. To date Franklin has lost about 25 pounds and says, “I am going to get a little sassier.”
The singer turns 69 on March 25 says she wants to be a size 16 (U.S. size) by the time her big day rolls around.
“By my birthday I will be a 16 – that’s my birthday wish,” she says. “And I just want to continue my super maintained health. ‘I look wonderful to myself at [US] size 14 or 16. But 16 is OK, too. I will rest my case at 16.”
Franklin has changed her diet drastically. Instead of hamburgers, she now eats salads and lots of water.
“I go to the healthier foods that are less chemically treated,” Franklin says of her new diet.
“I am drinking lots of water to get rid of the toxins in my body. It’s a natural flushing. Water flushes your system and is also very good for your skin.”
Franklin will still have a quarter pounder, but everything is done in moderation. Of course eating healthy is only part of her new lifestyle. Franklin has also been hitting the treadmill for 30 minutes for three to four times a week.
The “Respect” singer is working with a personal trainer and is still monitored by her doctors. Franklin says her fans will see a stronger and healthier Aretha in-concert later this year.
