Arnold Schwarzenegger Fathered Child With House Staff Member More Than Ten Years Ago
When the news broke that former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shiver were separating, most people wondered how a marriage that lasted more than 20 years could just fall apart and now we know why.
Schwarzneger, by his own admission, fathered a child with a household staff memer more than 10 yeas ago.
After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” Schwarzenegger told the Times in a statement that also was sent to The Associated Press early Tuesday. “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” the statement concluded. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
Schwarzenegger’s and Shriver’s reps declined to comment on the situation any further.
The household staff member retired from working for the former governor and first lady back in January. The child was born before Schwarznegger’s 7 year stint as governor.
Shriver stood by her husband during his In 2003, during Schwarznegger’s gubernatorial campaign, the LA Times reported accusations that the former governor had a history of groping women. And even with those allegations on the table, Shriver still stood by him.
Schwarzenegger said last week that he and Shriver “both love each other very much.”
