Nigel Lythgoe Shocked by ‘The Voice’ Emmy Win
The Voice won the award for ‘Outstanding Reality-Competition Show’ at the 65th Annual Emmy Awards on Sunday (Sep. 22), Though many fans were happy with the outcome, there’s one person who isn’t happy with the choice and his name is Nigel Lythgoe.
Lythgoe (who was let go from his post as exec producer of American Idol) took to Twitter following the NBC show’s win to voice is discontent with the decision.
Lythgoe’s show, So You Think You Can Dance, was also nominated in the same category up against The Amazing Race, Project Runway, Dancing With the Stars and Top Chef. He went on to explain why the decision shocked him.
“I’m talking about over the 11 years American Idol changed the face of television across the World it didn’t win an Emmy,” he continued. “Not just lately.”
Lythgoe is referring to the fact that American Idol has lost ‘Outstanding Reality-Competition Show’ for the past several years, but newcomer The Voice was able to beat everyone in the category, after having been on television for less than five years.
Lythgoe, 64, was let go from American Idol in July 2013.
