Dick Van Dyke to Appear in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’
It’s a jolly holiday with Bert, as Dick Van Dyke has been tapped to play a deja vu role in Mary Poppins Returns.
Van Dyke won’t be reprising his role as Bert in the reboot, instead he will be playing the son of banker manager Mr. Dawes.
Mary Poppins Returns stars Emily Blunt in the titular role, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Bert.
Van Dyke also played Mr. Dawes in the 1964 classic. In the reboot, Van Dyke’s character is his own age: “This time there’s no four hours in the makeup chair, I grew into the part!”
“I’ll be going to London in the spring to do my role, and I get to do a little song-and-dance number,” the 91-year-old told ET. “I gotta be a part of it.”
