Spotify Faces Backlash After Rolling Out Ad Calling Justin Bieber a ‘Latin King’

Fans are not pleased with Spotify after they unveiled an ad with Justin Bieber, calling him a ‘Latin King.’

The “title” comes from his remix of the song “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. Thought Bieber has constantly forgotten the lyrics when performing the song live, it has been on the top of the charts, earning the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list for seven weeks in a row.

Once fans got wind of the new ad, they took to social media to rip into the music-streaming service for their poor choice of words.

Following the backlash, Spotify pulled the ad and released a statement.

‘We made a creative decision to feature Justin Bieber in our ad because we wanted to celebrate ‘Despacito’ as key cultural moment when music genres crossover. We realized that this could be seen as culturally insensitive, so we have pulled those ads,” a Spotify spokesperson told the Huffington Post via e-mail.
