Fergie Apologies For National Anthem Performance at the NBA All-Star Game
Following a plethora of criticism, Fergie has apologized for her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner”at the NBA All-Star Game this past Sunday (Feb 18).
“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said in a statement acquired by PEOPLE. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
Fergie, 42, performed what many have now classified as a jazzy-sultry version of the anthem.
However, many of the players and on-lookers were confused by the arrangement. Many expected her to segue-way into a differ song altogether. The rendition was met with several players holding back laughter or just looking around perplexed by what was taking place.
Fergie has since disabled comments on her Instagram, where she was constantly being mocked by the masses.
