Kevin Hart Resigns From Oscar Hosting Duties
Kevin Hart has stepped down from hosting the Oscars amid tweet controversy.
Just days after accepting the gig, Hart has decided to no longer host the Academy Awards. This comes after onlookers resurrected Hart’s tweets from 2009 through 2011 that included derogatory language referring to homosexuals and made negative comments about sexuality.
Hart was asked to apologize by the Academy or lose the gig. He opted not to, only to later resign from the gig and issue an apology. He took to social media to issue the apology.
He wrote, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s,” Hart, who is currently performing in Sydney, Australia, announced late Sunday on Twitter. “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past. I’m sorry that I hurt people… I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”
