Aretha Franklin Gives Fantasia Barrino Some Advice

A few weeks ago Fantasia Barrino vocalized her thoughts on being “snubbed” from the Aretha Frankli Tribute at the Grammys.  Barrino felt as though she  should have been a part of the tribute, especially since Franklin is one of her idols. Various media outlets said that Fantasia, who won her first Grammy that night, protested the grammys due to the snub. Upon hearing about Fantasia’s “hurt feelings” The Queen of Soul AKA Aretha, offered some words of encouragement and advice for the American Idol Winner. Check out what she said below.

“I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my Grammy Tribute this year. I recall that in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute. Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like participate in. I’m sure it was not an intentional omission. I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit.”

Aretha Franklin: “The problem has been resolved”

Aretha Franklin is finally talking about her mystery illness. The singer sat down with Jet Magazine once again to speak about what has been going on with her health-wise.  Franklin knew something was off when she had a very hard pain in her side.

“I am not one to do a lot of talking about my personal health or business. Not too much, not too much. There are a lot of people who will talk about anything, as long as there is somebody listening. But I am not one of those people. That’s not Aretha.”
Franklin hasn’t addressed the pancreatic cancer rumors because she feels that her health is between her and her doctors solely. And that’s why she says she’s not discussing the news reports and rumors that she is battling pancreatic cancer.

“I am not going to even deal with that,” she states. “I don’t have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved.”

The singer strongly encourages people to monitor their health. “If there is anything happening with you that is uncommon and something that you know should not be happening, go to your doctor. Be determined to find out what is going on.”
When Franklin first had the pain, she thought it was due to a colonoscopy she had.
“I had a colonoscopy and it showed nothing was wrong. I associated the pain in my side with the colonoscopy that I had within a day or two before. I got up at 2 o’clock in the morning and called the doctor who did the colonoscopy and told him what was happening. He said, ‘Miss Franklin, whatever it is, it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.’ Thank God he said that because that unfolded everything, what the problem was and everything.”

Finally Aretha reveals why she decided to speak out to her fans, “I know my fans are concerned. Let them know I am feeling great and coming along.”
She sends out a message of gratitude for her fans worldwide. “I want to thank my fans and friends and supporters who have prayed for me and sent me beautiful cards and flowers. Please continue to respect my privacy as I continue to recover.”

Aretha Franklin sat  for the firs time since  her health to speak with Jet magazine.  Although she’s taking it easy, the legendary singer seems to be in  good spirits. Franklin declined to state whether or not reports of her having pancreatic cancer were true.

Here’s some snippets from the interview-

How is Aretha feeling these days:

“I feel great. The doctors say I can do whatever I feel like I am up to do. Of course, that doesn’t mean any concerts or anything like that. But I can do things around the house, and today I am just piddling around the house.”
Aretha on what she’s been doing lately:
“I am putting Aretha together first,” she tells Jet. “This is Aretha time to do whatever it is that I need to do. But I will talk more later.” “It is good to sit up, too,” Franklin added. “I also might make one or two business calls. Not too much, just a teeny bit.”

Franklin told Vibe that even though she has a private nurse, her family and friends are taking goof care of her.
Franklin on Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey, Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick sending her well-wishes:

“They know that I am a lot more than the girl in the Pink Cadillac on the Freeway of Love who also sings about Respect,” she said of her pals. “They pray without ceasing for me.” “God has given me the greatest gift already for the holidays,” Franklin gushed of her improved health. “I am so grateful.”
