Pharrell Fronts New Issue of COMPLEX

Super Producer Pharrell Williams covers COMPLEX magazine’s Best of 2013 issue.

Williams has had a great year; from collaborating with 80s group Daft Punk, to singing on Robin Thicke’s smash song, “Blurred Lines.”

Now, Williams is chatting with the magazine about his music, PETA and Miley Cyrus:

Here’s some of his Complex interview:

On Miley Cyrus:
“I’m not worried about Miley. I’ve seen her soul in action. She’s 20 years old and enjoying her life. She’s enjoying her freedom. [With her style] I’m talking about her everyday dressing—she shuts it the f*** down. Not too many people really understand the Chanel vocabulary like her. Like, she’s a problem.”

On the PETA movement:
“I sympathize with their movement and I recognize that people could be impressionable. But at the same time, I like fashion. And I don’t like being told what to do.”

On his new album:
“I love rapping. But something’s coming, and I’m not rapping on it.”

On family:
“My son. Our son. It’s like, that’s our world. Helen and I having Rocket, it’s been awesome. It’s the best song that I’ve ever co-written.”

Robin Thicke & A Few Random Naked Women Cover TREATS! Magazine

Robin Thicke brings his “Blurred Lines” video concept to TREATS! magazine.

In this issue, Thicke shares how  TREATS!’ played a role in inspiring the “Blurred Lines” video.

TREATS! magazine is a  fine art, printed quarterly. Featuring luxurious and exclusive content by the best photographers, models, stylists, writers and artists.

On posing with naked women for the magazine shoot: “I’ve done some topless photo shoots before but never completely nude. It was very sexy and I like that. At first I thought, ‘Okay, let’s just do topless’…but, again, my wife and her friends were like, ‘No way…go all the way.’ I think we definitely pushed the envelope.”

On how TREATS! inspired the video:” When I was talking to my wife [Paula Patton] and her friends about the video they said, ‘Do something like Treats! because you love it so much.’ And her friends were like, ‘Yes!’ We showed Treats! issue 3 with Emily Ratajkowski on the cover to the director [Diane Martel] and she said, ‘That’s our girl!’ And she was cast. I wanted to give homage where homage was due. We wanted to pay it all forward about our inspiration from Treats! for the ‘Blurred Lines’ video.”

On his “Blurred Lines” video: ““All three guys in the video are married and have children…it was all tongue-in-cheek… We wanted to put everything in that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, etc. In fact, after the video was banned on YouTube my wife tweeted, ‘Violence is ugly. Nudity is beautiful. And the ‘Blurred Lines’ video makes me wanna…’ We wanted it to be as silly and fun as possible.”

Alan Thicke Is Proud Of Son Robin’s Success

Robin Thicke‘s song “Blurred Lines” is currently one of the hottest songs on the radio. In fact, many have named it the summer anthem of 2013.

Now, Thicke’s father, actor Alan Thicke, is speaking out on his son’s success.
“I’ve related to it, and understood it, and was able to feel it, up until only the last couple of weeks,” the elder Thicke tells PEOPLE while attending the 15th Annual DesignCare event benefiting The HollyRod Foundation.

“He has now projected himself into a stratosphere, into another level, having raised the bar, the family brand, to unimaginable heights.”

Alan is best remembered for his role of ‘Jason Seaver’ on Growing Pains, but he is also a  songwriter and composer. And even though Robin seems to be getting all the shine in the music department now, dear-ole- dad is alright with that.

“I occasionally get a good laugh by introducing myself as ‘Robin Thicke’s father,'” he says. “And though I cannot quite relate to the incredible success and accomplishment of his work on that song, now I just feel [like], ‘Okay, now I just have to share you with the rest of the world now … You are barely mine anymore.'”

Alan is even a part of Robin’s new album, as he  co-wrote the track, “Ain’t No Hat 4 That.”

“When I read some of the reviews for that particular song, they even suspected that was the one that I wrote because it was the only one without any cussing in it!” Thicke, who has also authored two parenting books, says with a laugh. “Robin is never shy about dropping the odd scandalous word, and being very sexual in his tunes, and the one that I was involved in had neither the sex, nor any trace of contentious dialogue!”

Robin Thicke ‘Blurred Lines’ [Artwork + Track Listing]

Robin Thicke‘s colorful album cover for Blurred Lines shows his funky side. The album has already received rave reviews  from critics.  A perfect blend of R&B, Pop, and a little Hip-Hop. Thicke has come a long way since appearing on the music scene in 2003.

“The album is called Blurred Lines. I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older that we all think we’re living either in a black or white world, or on a straight path, but most of us are living right in between those straight lines. And everything you thought you knew, the older you get, you realize, ‘Damn, I don’t know nothing about this. I better pay attention, I better listen and keep learning.’ So I think that, that’s what I’ve been realizing these past few years.” -Robin Thicke
