Penelope Cruz gets up-close and personal with ALLURE.
In this issue, the actress speaks on her addiction to breastfeeding and her loving friendship with fellow actress, Salma Hayek.
On Salma Hayek:
“She’s one of my best friends. We call each other heuvos [eggs]. It was because when were working together, we didn’t have children yet, so we used to sleep much more than now. So it was a way to call each other lazy. We slept in the same bed so many times and it was like she was always trying to wake me up and call me huevos.”
On her breast-feeding plan:
“I’m supposed to get extra calories because breast-feeding you burn, like, an extra 500 a day. I was breast-feeding my son 13 months, and I plan to do the same with my daughter. [Nursing] is addictive. It’s hard when the day comes when you have to stop.”
On her childhood:
“I always knew I wanted a family because of the way I grew up. Family has always been the most important thing. In my house every Sunday, everyone was cleaning the house. There was always music, and everyone was dancing, sometimes naked, around the house. Not hippie, but very free.”
On her lingerie line:
“I did the whole [model] casting myself. Some of the girls are 20. Some of the girls are 50. I made sure that we had a couple of plus-size models. It’s like celebration of all types of beauty.”
