Eminem Covers Billboard Magazine

Hot on the heels of the release of his new album, The Marshall Mathers LP2, Eminem covers Billboard magazine.

Though he’s been rapping and putting out albums for over a decade, Eminem is still not comfortable with fame. Check out some of his insight on fame, creating music and much more.

On not being comfortable with fame:

“I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek/Oh well, I guess beggars can’t be choosy,” he rhymes. “Wanted to receive attention for my music/Wanted to be left alone in public, excuse me.”

“I remember it felt like shit was just flying by me and nothing really seemed real.” He adds, “When I was making records, I would just take my frustrations out about that. I mean, fuck, here it is 2013 and I still don’t really have a total grasp on it yet and understand it.”

On fans liking his music:

“I kind of just make what I make and however people take to it is how they take to it, or don’t take to it,” he says. “I knew that it would have to match a certain intensity and vibe and feel in order to call it [The Marshall Mathers LP 2]. I want to say I’m confident that I’ve done that, but it’s up to the listener to decide.”

On bringing things back to old-school Hip-Hop with MMLP2:

“One of the things I thought might be cool to try to accomplish was to see if I could bring it back and remind people of the first time they ever heard me on a record. I wanted to try and recapture that nostalgic feeling.”

On his life now:

“Things are a little more calm for me now,” Eminem says. “There was a time when everything was kind of flying by the seat of my pants and I kind of didn’t know what was happening to my life. That certainly did get the best of me, with drugs and the pressure of all that shit. I’m at a different point now, but I still want to rap with the same energy and intensity and passion as before because, at the end of the day, this is what I love.”

Check out some highlights from her interview below, and don’t forget to pick up the latest issue of Cosmo UK, on newsstands now.

On why her parents’ divorce didn’t make her cynical about marriage:

“My parents’ divorce [when I was nine] didn’t make me cynical about love and marriage,” she says.

“I’ve always been a big romantic and I look forward to all those things. I’ve been in a relationship for six years and I’m happy… To have a partner is one of the greatest things. I’ve always been a fan of love! I love any movie or book or anything to do with love because I’m a romantic… I’m an emotional person; I go with my heart before my head every time!”

On the secret job she wishes she had:

“If I could karaoke duet with anyone it would be Eminem. I secretly want to be a rapper.”

On overcoming pressure:

“I don’t think I ever overcome pressure well. I’ve just learnt not to put myself into situations where I have to deal with it much!”

“I quickly learnt not to pay attention to that stuff [fame and media attention]. Especially if it’s going to make you feel bad. It’s very unhealthy, so I try to stay away from it.”
