Disney has axed Girl Meets World after just two seasons.
The show was a spin-off of the popular 90s show, Boy Meets World, which starred Ben Savage. The spin-off started out with strong ratings, but it was not able to hold its own like the original.
“It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end, that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over,” the @GMWwriters account tweeted Wednesday. “I just officially got the call, and would like to thank this audience for its incredible love and loyalty. Please watch our January episodes.”
The Twitter account, which is rumored to be run by showrunner Michael Jacobs, continued: “We leave you with three incredible souvenirs of a show we couldn’t be more proud of. As I look back I can tell you with absolute certainty – We gave you our best.”
The show’s three final episodes will air this January. The series stars Peyton Meyer as Lucas Friar.
Girl Meets World airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Disney Channel.
A mini Boy Meets World reunion occurred on the set of the pilot of the upcoming spin-off , Girl Meets World.
Last week, original BMW cast members Rider Strong (Shawn), Will Fredle (Eric) and William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) were spotted on the set of the upcoming Disney Channel show.
It has not been confirmed whether or not the threesome would appear on the actual pilot, but why else would they be there?
Eric and Jack’s (Matthew Lawrence) roommate in the later years Rachel (Mailtand Ward) was also on-set.
The spin-off will mainly focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley ( Rowan Blanchard), and her friends, but executive producer Michael Jacobs has expressed an interest in bringing back the original stars for guest spots.
