Viola Davis looks radiant on the October issue of ESSENCE magazine.
The Help star chats it up with the editor about staying true to herself and love. She even reveals that her husband, Julius Tennon, was a gift from God after He answered her prayers.
On the type of man she wanted:
“I asked for a husband who was emotionally available, someone who was older, someone who maybe had a family before,” she says. “I like older men. Someone from the South. Someone who loves God more than he loves himself.”
On her prayers being answered soon after:
“I met my husband three and a half weeks later. “On one our first dates, he took me to church.”
On why she no longer wears wigs:
“I had to defend myself as an artist, but I found myself defending myself as a dark-skinned black woman in front of people who did not know my life,” she says. “I took my wig off because I no longer wanted to apologize for who I am.”

Just a few months ago, Octavia Spencer was singing the praises of Sensa, a weight-loss supplement, but now it seems things have gone left.
Spencer filed a lawsuit at L.A. Superior Court alleging “breach-of-contract and fraud,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In documents obtained by THR, the Oscar winner signed a $1.25 million contract with the company, but it had stipulations: Spencer refused to do tabloid ads, or to take part in “before and after” photos. She also insisted on being completely honest with her fans by tagging all sponsored tweets with the required #spon hashtag. Sensa was allegedly not happy with the hashtag part.
In the lawsuit filed, Spencer claims the company is blaming her “for the failed advertising campaign” and they are now trying to back out of paying her $700,000 they owe her.
Since coming on board, Sensa has used Spencer’s face to promote their product through various avenues.
Spencer lost 20 pounds, in just five months, as a result of using Sensa.
