NBC’s Live production The Sound of Music received mixed reviews from viewers during and after its initial airing on Dec. 5.
Some loved the movie, while others did not think Carrie Underwood fit the part. In fact the country star was heavily criticized by fans, The von Trapps and even Kym Karath, who played Gretl von Trapp in the original movie version with Julie Andrews.
Underwood posted a response to her critics on Friday (Dec. 6) via Twitter. She wrote: “Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight… 1 Peter 2:1-25.”
Underwood hasn’t tweeted since. The bible passage she referenced says, Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
The Sound of Music comes to NBC this holiday season. But don’t expect to see Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews dancing and singing. This re-creation will star Carrie Underwood as ‘Maria’ and Stephen Moyer as ‘Captain Von Trapp.’ In addition to re-creating the hit musical, this version will be three hours long and live!
So who else will be star in this live production? Tony award-winning actress Audra McDonald will play ‘The Mother Abbess,’ Laura Benanti as ‘Elsa Schraeder’ and Christian Borle will play ‘Max Detweiler,’
