NBC’s Live production The Sound of Music received mixed reviews from viewers during and after its initial airing on Dec. 5.
Some loved the movie, while others did not think Carrie Underwood fit the part. In fact the country star was heavily criticized by fans, The von Trapps and even Kym Karath, who played Gretl von Trapp in the original movie version with Julie Andrews.
Underwood posted a response to her critics on Friday (Dec. 6) via Twitter. She wrote: “Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight… 1 Peter 2:1-25.”
Underwood hasn’t tweeted since. The bible passage she referenced says, Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
