Womens Wear Daily got the exclusive single artwork for Lady Gaga‘s song, “Applause.”

“I want to know. What do you see?” asks Lady Gaga.

The image in question is the cover of Gaga’s new single “Applause,” which is the lead single from her forthcoming album ARTPOP.

The photo of Gaga was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

According to WWD, “the photograph is colorful, emotional and theatrical, capturing Gaga with a Pierrot-esque face, her rainbow of makeup artfully smeared and her hair covered under a head wrap. ”

When asked to explain the image, Gaga replied, “I need to get your reading first,” she says. “Otherwise it’s not art.”

ARTPOP hits stores on November 11.

Beyonce has been heavily scrutinized for her 2011 Billboard Music performance. Naysayers have accused her of  “coping” Lorella Cuccarini.  Beyonce has now confirmed that shew drew inspiration for her performance after seeing  a performance by Italian pop singer Lorella Cuccerini in 2010.

Read what Bey had to say below.

“My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much,” Beyonce tells AOL Music, exclusively. “I then met with the talented people who worked on it.
The technology and concept were so genius. Thank god for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards.”

Now take a look at the side-by-side comparison below.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Most, if not all, artists draw inspiration from someone or something, so I don’t see the big deal. It’s not like Beyonce tried to hide it.
