Washington will be joined by former UCLA Bruins footballer Donovan Carter, will play ‘Vernon;’ a deeply family oriented pro-athlete, and actor-wrestler Dwayne Johnson is spearheading the project.
Ballers is a 30-minute dramedy that follows the lives of several Miami-based athletes.
The show is a joint project by Mark Wahlberg and Entourage producer Stephen Levinson.
Washington played football at Morehouse College and went on to have a career with the NFL team, the St. Louis Rams. He has a small part in the 1992 film, Malcolm X, alongside his father.
Mark Wahlberg is a high school graduate1
The 42-year-old has earned his high school dipolma; and credit his kids for motivating him to do so.
“I didn’t want the kids saying, ‘You didn’t do it, so why do I need it?’ They are all wanting to do things in their future that require an education,” he says.
Walhberg, who dropped out of the ninth grade, says getting his diploma is “a huge accomplishment.”
“It’s also a huge sense of relief,” he tells PEOPLE. “I wondered, ‘Why didn’t I do it when I was there?’ It’s so much harder at 41 going back and trying to do all these difficult tasks.”
In May, Wahlberg posted the photo above on Twitter, encouraging fans to get their diploma as well.
And now that the actor has his diploma, he wants to further his education.
He says, “I would love to go to USC and study film. I don’t want to become a veterinarian or anything, [I want to study] things that further my career and broaden my horizon.”
