Carrie Underwood Addresses ‘Sound of Music’ Critics

NBC’s Live production The Sound of Music received mixed reviews from viewers during and after its initial airing on Dec. 5.

Some loved the movie, while others did not think Carrie Underwood fit the part. In fact the country star was heavily criticized by fans, The von Trapps and even Kym Karath, who played Gretl von Trapp in the original movie version with Julie Andrews.

Underwood posted a response to her critics on Friday (Dec. 6) via Twitter. She wrote: “Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight… 1 Peter 2:1-25.”

Underwood hasn’t tweeted since. The bible passage she referenced says, Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”

Carrie Underwood is loving the skin she’s in.

The Country music star covers the latest issue of REDBOOK and she’s looking better than ever.

Underwood leads a very busy life these days. On top of juggling her singing career and married, life, Underwood is gearing up to play ‘Maria’ in NBC’s live remake of The Sound of Music.

Check out some of what she had to say to the magazine below.

On her food journal:
“You know how you feel when you get full? Well, I don’t get full. I can eat a lot. Mike and I were in Italy for 10 days and I put on 8 pounds. So in real life, I have to make sure I’m not eating just to eat.”

On trusting husband Mike Fisher:
“If he goes to a bar with his friends, a tabloid is going to report about it. Same goes for me. Trust is what it is. Either you trust someone or you don’t. And I’ve never trusted anymore more than I trust Mike.”

On losing weight after American Idol:
“It was on the Idol tour [after I won]. I put on a lot of weight [during the show] because we were locked in a room all day with a craft service table. I was bored so I was just eating. I was never overweight, but I feel better with myself.”
