Album Review: Maroon 5 – “Overexposed”
Maroon 5 serves up a medley of toe-tapping, and mesmerizing songs on their brand new album, Overexposed.
Instead of giving fans the same mundane sound that so many bands tend to do these days, Maroon 5 delivers a fresh and exciting sound with every album they release. Overexposed is laced with insightful lyrics that will tug at your heartstrings, make you want to move your body and send you on a non-stop roller coaster ride of emotion.
The album features such hits as “Payphone” and “One More Night.” Overexposed includes collaborations with Benny Blanco and Shellback (“Moves Like Jagger”) and OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder.
The album’s lead single “Payphone” debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and made its way to number two shortly thereafter. The song has been met with both praise and criticism for adding rapper Wiz Khalifa, but judging by the track’s chart performance, across the country, the positive outweighs the negative.
The Trance and Disco-like feel of “Doin’ Dirt” will make you want to dance from the moment you hear those chimes. The band sings “So right now, I wanna leave with you right now…I wanna be with you all night, in the car let’s go.” The lyrics are slightly provocative, but delivered in a subtle tone by leaving things up to the listener’s imagination. Most albums tend to taper off towards the end, but with the appearance of “Doin’ Dirt” towards the end of the album, it leaves you yearning for more Maroon 5.
It’s not often where you can find an album that’s playable from beginning to end. Overexposed is absolutely addictive! It’s the type of album you can listen to over and over again and never skip a single track.
Overexposed is an exceptional album. Maroon 5 took a gamble and infused their own unique sound with hints of Pop. The album is one of, if not, their best effort to-date. If you’re looking for a tasteful album that evokes emotion, then Overexposed is it. If you want an album with meaningful lyrics, then look no further. And finally if you want an album that mixes an array of genres in a way to produce its very own unique sound, then Overexposed is the next album that should be added to your music collection. Some fans may be missing the Maroon 5 circa Songs About Jane, but with any great artist, the band has evolved with the changing times and it works!
