Top 5 Halloween Movies To Watch

Halloween is fast approaching and if you still haven’t found a party or event to attend, then watching a scary film is the next best thing.  There are hundreds of scary films to entertain you and your guests with on Halloween, but these top 5 Halloween films are exactly what you need to make your frightful night complete.

#5 – “Hocus Pocus” (1993)

“Hocus Pocus” is one of the most watched Halloween films every year. With the film celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, parents and kids alike have been binge watching the movie every time it airs.  The film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy who play a trio of sister witches. The story follows a misfit teenage boy named Max, who mistakenly casts a spell that resurrects the trio. In an effort to keep their presence on earth going, the sisters seek to steal the soul of a Max’s sister, Dani. The movie includes witches, zombies and even a musical number. “Hocus Pocus” isn’t filled with gore and a signature monster, but it’s the perfect traditional film for people of all ages to enjoy.

#4 –  “It” (1990)

Clowns can be happy and entertaining or they can be a nightmare like in Stephen King’s “It.” the original film was a miniseries adapted from the 1986 novel by the same name. If you aren’t afraid of clowns, you probably will be by the end of the film.   Tim Curry stars as the shapeshifter Pennywise, who terrorizes a group of children (named the Losers) and then returns 30-years later to start the cycle all over again. “It” is one of the those films that makes you sleep with a night light, a warm blanket and a bat by your bedside.  It makes you second guess everything you thought was fun and friendly about clowns.  If you want even more gore than the original, then the 2017 remake of the film will be right up your alley.

#3  – “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984- 2003)

Elm Street is where nightmares become a reality.  Halloween night is the perfect time to binge watch the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” series. There have been seven films in the series – “A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984),” “Freddy’s Revenge (1985),” “Dream Warriors (1987),” “The Dream Master (1988),” “The Dream Child (1989),” “Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991),” “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994).” There was also the spin-off film, titled  “Freddy vs. Jason (2003).”  The 2010 remake was the only film in that didn’t star the original Freddy (Robert Englund) and it showed, as it was the worst movie in the franchise. The general concept had  creator Wes Craven taking a fear that every human has experienced and brought it to life. Even if your Nightmare wasn’t the focus in any of the films, the eerie thought that your nightmare could become real was enough to make you follow the actors in the film and stay up all night to avoid Freddy.

#2 – “Child’s Play”  (1988)

When Chucky wants to play, you run away.  “Child’s Play” shows us that just because something seems innocent on the outside, it doesn’t mean the inside matches. The 80s were all about Chucky; a Good Guy doll that was inhabited by a dying serial killer named Charles Lee Ray.  The original film follows Chucky as he’s determined to kill his way to taking over the body and soul of his human owner, a boy named Alex.  Wielding a knife through most of the film, Chucky takes no prisoners and slashes anyone in his path.  The movie makes you hate dolls, but love Chucky due to his quick wit and charisma. That charisma has led to a loyal fanbase eagerly awaiting a franchise reboot!

#1 – “Halloween”  (1978)

Eleven movies, countless explosions and stab wounds later and Michael Myers is still alive and kicking. Or is he? You can’t celebrate Halloween without watching the movie that shares the same name. The “Halloween” franchise began in 1978 and some 40-years later, “Halloween” is still the most recognized film of the season.  The original film begins with Michael Myers stabbing his older sister to death when he was just six-years-old.  Myers is released from a mental facility and begins to go on a stalking and killing spree on Halloween the state of Illinois. The latest “Halloween,” which was released just a few weeks ago, ignored all of the other sequels and picked up where the original left off. It is also the highest-grossing film in the series.
If listening to “Monster Mash” on today and eating bags of candy isn’t your thing, then check out these classic Halloween films!
